BEIJING (DATE) – The China Open, Asia’s premier combined men’s and women’s professional tennis tournament, announced the addition of world number five Grigor Dimitrov to its 2018 player field.
Dimitrov has earned eight ATP World Tour singles titles. His most notable came last fall, when Dimitrov won the season-ending ATP Finals in London.
This 27-year-old Bulgarian has previously played the China Open five times. Last year, Dimitrov reached the semifinals, losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in three sets. Dimitrov’s best effort in Beijing came in 2016, when he was runner-up, a run highlighted by a quarterfinal victory over Nadal.
With Dimitrov now entered, the 2018 China Open men’s field boasts four of the top five-ranked men in the world – number one Rafael Nadal, third-ranked Alexander Zverev, fourth-ranked Juan Martin del Potro – as well as three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.
The 2018 China Open will take place from 23 September to 7 October. In addition to the growing men’s field, the women’s event is a WTA Premier Mandatory tournament, meaning that all of the top 47 women in the world will be automatically entered.
