China Open Preview for October 3: Zhang Shuai and Coco Gauff Aim for Clash, Chinese Duo Targets Doubles Semifinals

On October 3, the China Open 2024 will continue the quarterfinals of the women’s singles in the bottom half of the draw. Chinese player Zhang Shuai is set to face Spaniard and former World No.2 Paula Badosa. Former US Open champion Coco Gauff will take on the tournament's surprise player, Yuliia Starodubtseva. Besides, the Chinese duo Tang Qianhui and Yuan Yue will aim for a spot in the women’s doubles semifinals.

Zhang Shuai has reached the quarterfinals at the China Open for the third time, facing 15th seed and former world No. 2 Paula Badosa. This marks Badosa's first appearance in the main draw at the China Open, where she has impressively made it to the quarterfinals. This match will also be their first meeting at no earlier than 3 PM on the Capital Diamond Court.

In the following match, fourth seed Coco Gauff will play against Yuliia Starodubtseva, who entered the tournament ranked 115th and has reached the quarterfinals at the WTA 1000 event for the first time. This match will be their first professional encounter. Fans are eager to see whether Gauff will make her second consecutive appearance in the China Open semifinals or whether Starodubtseva's underdog story will continue.

In doubles action, the remaining Chinese duo Tang Qianhui and Yuan Yue will conclude the day's matches against Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Liudmila Samsonova. Earlier, 2019 China Open women’s doubles champions Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands will meet the Paris Olympic silver medalists in women’s doubles, Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.
