Sixteen coveted spots in the China Open main draw are up for grabs on Tuesday in the final round of qualifying. Twelve main-draw spots remain open for the WTA 1000 main draw, while four spots are open for the ATP 250. Among those eyeing a main draw spot are US Open quarterfinalist Botic Van de Zandschulp, Czechia's Tomas Machac, and Spanish veteran Pablo Carreno Busta.
In the women’s draw, No. 2 qualifying seed Harriet Dart will look to successfully qualify for her third straight tournament, having done so over the summer in Cincinnati and the US Open. She will face China's Ma Yexin, who is riding a wave of momentum after a career-best showing in the Round of 16 of last week's WTA 250 in Seoul.
Dart's compatriot Jodie Burrage is also a win away from qualifying. Burrage upset 10th-seed Rebecca Sramkova in the first round and will play Japan's Mai Hontama for a spot in her first tour-level main draw since 2025 Wimbledon.
No. 6 seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich enjoyed an outstanding run to the third round at last year's China Open, coming through qualifying to topple former No. 1 Naomi Osaka. The 32-year-old finds herself on the doorstep again, as she readies to face America's Varvara Lepchenko.
Lepchenko is one of three Americans looking to advance to the main draw. 12th-seed Robin Montgomery will play Germany's Anna-Lena Friedsam, and Vivian Wolff will try and get past France's Elsa Jacquemot to book a spot in her first WTA 1000 main draw.
No. 16 seed Storm Hunter is vying to make her first WTA 1000 main draw since Indian Wells in March. The former doubles No. 1 is still working her way back on the singles court after rupturing her achilles tendon in 2024. She engineered a three-set comeback in the first round and will face Ksenia Zaytseva.
28-year-old Chinese wildcard Cui Jie is the underdog story in the men’s tournament. Ranked No. 456, Cui stunned 6th-seeded Daniel Altmeier in the first round in straight sets and is a win away from his third tour-level main draw.
